Your child's next bath very well might be his very favorite bathtime ever. My daughter and I just had so much fun with an idea from a book called Prime Time Together with Kids. Maybe you'll want to try it too!
The Palette: A muffin tin with shaving cream squirted into each cup and mixed with a different color or colors food coloring. The Brush: An old basting brush from my kitchen.
The Easel: Our bathroom shower tiles
A Happy Artist:
We didn't fill the bathtub up with water this time so that she would be able to stand up without as much fear of slipping.
We had a great time!

That looks like SOOOO much fun!! Is the book full of good ideas like this one? If so, I'll have to visit the library...
FUN! i love this idea....and so would my girls :)
Thanks for visiting me! I love the great ideas you have here on your blog....I'll be back for more visits!
Mommysecrets,
The book does have some other fun ideas- some that I plan on trying. This one is definitely my favorite from the book though.
What an awesome idea! I am going to do this tomorrow with my daughter - she will flip out!
Thanks!
Another fun bathtime paint idea (though not as colorful) is pudding. Make up some pudding, they can paint in it and even taste it, if they want. I love this reminder to make time to have messy fun!
I love your fun and creative ideas!! I wish I had them when my boys were younger. Who says you have to spend lots of money on toys? - back to the basics!
Mom
gasp! I love this!! and I have 4 little ones who will too!!
what great fun! my girls love using that for regular paint too!

Love this idea and did it this my girls straight away! Merci http://creatrish.blogspot.com/2011/08/holiday-day-52-template-distort-mosaic.html
I did this with my 2 yo the other night. I was not happy that it stained her skin, and made her look like she had burns all over legs. Although a cute idea, maybe not the best one. I think we'll just stivk with plain white shaving cream.
Love this idea! Thank you for sharing. I was going to ask if it dyed skin or tiles though.
I'm sorry it was not a good experience! I didn't have a problem with it dyeing skin, but it did take a little while to come out of the grout in the tiles. (I actually didn't scrub out the color from the grout; it just came out on its own after about a week of showers :-)
If you add a little white glue you get puffy paint when it dries!
Thought this idea was cute. I mixed the shaving cream with washable tempera paint though. Came off no problem no staining at all:-)
Thank you for this idea, my kids will love it! We re posted over at http://www.savingmyfamilymoney.com
Hi Katey! What a GREAT idea! Gave you a little shout out today: http://www.coolprogeny.com/2011/10/mondays-five-things-bath-time-fun-for.html. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my word. That is such an amazing idea! My two toddlers would LOVE this!
question - how did the food coloring work with clean up? I realize you are in a tub but still curious. I have a BIG artist who loves to do ART every where and tomorrow we are outside with a soap/tp/water combo. Still hesitant with food coloring because I know what it does to hands when cooking.
It did leave some color in the grout for a little while, but eventually it faded without any extra scrubbing or chemicals on my part. I think it left some faint tinting for about a week though until the shower water eventually soaked it away.
I love this idea. I blogged about it here. Thanks!

Blogged about your idea yesterday. Thanks so much for the inspiration. We had so much fun!!!!
http://allthethingswelove.blogspot.com/2011/11/shaving-cream-bathtub-paint.html
We've used vanilla pudding before and added food coloring, or kool aid for coloring. It was so much fun! We did it outside in the summer and then hosed them off when done. Easy clean-up
After pinning this a few months ago we finally did it with our 20 month old. He had a blast. I didn't get the best photos, since our bathroom is fairly dark. However, I hope to post them soon.
Does this stain the grout??
Nevermind, just read the post underneath:)
does it stain ? since it has food coloringin in it
I am going to try using face paint with my grandkids.....maybe this type paint will not stain them or the grout
you can use this same idea to paint on paper as well. we had the kids use gloves while using the mixture so it would not stain their hands. u can also use a foil muffin tin that you can clean if u want to reuse it or go ahead and toss them out. can get these really cheap after the holidays. sometimes even under $1 a piece. anyways we also used shaving cream for sensitive skin.
just an fyi i tried this with regular food coloring bad idea my daughter is now red and blue but faded enough to look like bruises i wouldnt suggest those colors. but other than that she had an amazing time i think i will use some washable paint to mix it with :)
Sounds fun & yet another way for Bathtub fun is to use sidewalk chalk! My kids are 5 & 6 and still ask for it & can just wash it of with their hands & start all over!! Cleans up really easy & no buying boughten bathtub crayons!
I featured this today! Come by and check out the other toddler art projects I highlighted...

We saw this on pinterest and tried it the other night -- our 4 girls loved it! Thanks for the great idea. I blogged about it here:
http://montessoristory.blogspot.com/2012/02/shaving-cream-bath-paints.html
I just did this tonight with my daughter..... she loved it! She is 2.5 and I would say unless you want food coloring all over the kitchen - mix the "paints" for your kiddos without their help! As for the painting itself, it did stain her hands but we did it in the tub without water, and after we finished painting then we did a tub and by then the stain was gone from her hands. The grout on the other hand is a medly of colors! It's nothing a little clorox cleanup won't take care of and honestly, now i'll just have a wicked clean tub! Next time I will do it in the one piece shower that we have and just eliminate the whole grout issue!
this is such a great idea...I hope you don't mind my posting it to my blog and linking it back to you of course...but if you do please let me know...and I'll take it off..thank you ...τwoboysandhope.blogspot.com

Did this yesterday with my 3.5 and 1.5 year olds, and they had the BEST time. Were in there for an hour or so, playing and painting beautifully. Loved it. Thank you!
My two boys loved it! The youngest ended up having a slight reaction from the shaving cream (I should have figured with his sensitive skin) but still had a blast. It took a couple of tastings of the shaving cream before he realized that it was gross- YUCK! Great fun!
It stains the grout. I'm in a rental house and my grout is blue & red now...not that impressed with this idea.
Stained my child since we were painting him while he painted the bathtub. Oops! We'll have to try the washable paint idea next time. Other than that, tub came clean and we had a great time!
Very smart idea! And kids will love it!!
This is great! Did it stain your walls?
I just did this with my youngest. It didn't stain the bathtub but it did stain both of us. :-/
actually the shaving cream is what keeps the colors from staining. Hint: if you find that you have colored stains from other activites try using a little shaving cream to help remove it
CAN YOU USE THIS ON PAPER? AND WILL IT DRY AND STAY?
It doesn't stain the grout?
We didn't make it to the bathroom because the paint stained my daughter's hands and I became concerned about the tiles, the bathtub and us getting stained. =(
did the food coloring dye his skin?
I just did this with my kids, no staining on the kids and a little bit of staining in the grout not much though.
if you use half elmers glue and half shaving cream it will dry puffy. add some paint or food coloring to make the shaving cream a color
I just love this...what a treat for making bathtime fun!
Did this a couple nights ago and my 2 year old son loved it! The red and blue kind of stained the grout but I cleaned it with a sponge and some Mr. Clean and it came off. As for staining us, it only stained me because I accidently got the food coloring on my hand before I could mix it with the shaving cream. But once I washed my hand a couple times it was gone.
this looks epic!!
wow my brother will love this
I found you via pinterest and gave it a try!

What a cute idea. We will be passing this on to our reads. I'm sure they will LOVE It!! Thanks y'all!!!!
I just did this with my kids. It didn't stain anything but the grout. Even Comet didn't get the colour out. Next I will have to try bleach. Bummer. :( I suppose next time, we will just have to limit it to the actual tub: no painting on the walls.
soap and water should take it off pretty easily :)
A gigantic moonlike of recommendation, keep moving on.certapro
I think this is thoroughly unparalleled.

This is great, I used watercolor instead the colors are so vibrant and it didn't stain. Also tempura poster paint works well. I'm looking forward to trying it with the Elmer's glue.
This is
really pretty cool place I like it because it has everything I want more on
this blog soon.
best electric shaver blog
If you put a little baby oil in the bath then it wont stain anything. We use food colouring in a lot of art projects and we love it in the bath. Baby oil is good for their skin so you dont have to worry about it hurting them.
I wonder if adding a washable paint to the shaving cream would work better then the Food coloring
